Healthy Start to 2022

The festive season is well behind us, and whether we had a good year or not, a near year signifies a new start. As we enter 2022, it is that time of the year, New Me, and while we all have intentions of sticking to our new year’s resolutions, we often overlook an area in our lives. Don’t get me wrong, eating healthy, keeping fit, and growing our careers are all worthy goals, but our mental wellness must also factor into our lives. So alongside your 2022 must do, add these few things to your list, so as you grow, your mental health grows with you:

1. Allow yourself to rest.

Rest means very different things to different people. So if you love reading books or going on hikes, or even sleeping, do that. It is necessary to decompress as trivial as that may sound from everyday life. Rest is essential for improved mental health, concentration and memory, a stronger immune system, reduced stress, improved mood, and even a faster metabolism.

2. Spend time with friends.

If the pandemic has taught us anything, life can get a little isolated and lonely, something that can take a toll on you. Good friends are beneficial to one’s health, and friends can help you celebrate happy times and offer support during difficult times. Friends keep you from feeling lonely and allow you to provide much-needed companionship. In addition, friends can increase your sense of purpose and belonging, happiness while decreasing your stress and increasing your self-esteem and confidence.

3. Knowing when to get help.

Asking for help is one of the hardest things to do; we try to rationalize that this isn’t as bad, and we tend to feel like we are a burden when asked for it. It is perfectly normal to feel overwhelmed and like you are drowning, and it takes immense courage to admit you need help. Remain in tune with yourself this year, journal and go on a self-awareness journey so you know when to push pause and seek help.
