Cleveland was ranked the worst big city for Black women to live and work. A 2020 study examined inequities in several different metrics, including income status, health conditions, and educational accomplishment. This has stuck with me since hearing it, but I am not shocked. Cleveland has a long history of corruption, racism, and violence. Not as a direct response to the findings but with knowing how important black maternal health is I co-hosted The Holistic Health Summit.
The purpose of the Holistic Health Summit was to bring awareness to current and future black parents on holistic prenatal and postpartum family care. Our goal was to help families have less traumatic birth experiences and empower them to make healthier choices that support them physically, mentally, and emotionally. Yesterday we did just that, a safe space was created for families to talk and learn about equity, reproductive rights, and more!
Following my event, I am filled with love, support, and most importantly knowledge.
Love❤️ There was so much love in the room. Love of one’s self and love for black women. Our vendors created products and services specifically with black women in mind. The products and services provided gave opportunities to love our bodies, promote positive mental health, and spiritual health. Our vendors Mor-Mor organics, Cert Express, Genesis IV+ Wellness, Faith In Healing, Holistic Massotherapy & Wellness, and LT Squared.
Support🤝🏾I noticed how amazing my support system was while I was driving home and burst out into tears because they are phenomenal. Friends buying tickets from across the country, knowing they weren’t attending and sending love and encouragement. My mom, brother, sister (photographer/stylist), aunt, cousin, gramma, and boyfriend really showed out for me. My dad, I know my guy would be proud. My family Did anything I needed. Y’all my mom even sold a vendor table on the spot. The Public Health Notebook wouldn’t be where it is without them.
Knowledge📝 That is our mission, to connect community members to the resources and education for individuals to live healthier lives according to them. The wealth of knowledge our panelist held, is indescribable! I can honestly say everyone who was in the presence of the Holistic Health Summit walked away with a gem. I want to thank everyone again. Our amazing hosts, Mindful BS, Bianca and Shawnee. You two are literally one. The way you compliment each other is beautiful to watch. I can’t wait to tune in to next Mondays podcast found here.
